- "Join John Cullum (of Northern Exposure) as he relates the fascinating history of the Boeing B-29 Superfortress in SUPERFORT: THE BOEING B-29. Told from the perspective of a fictional B-29 flight engineer, Superfort provides a unique, endearing look at the human side of the obstacles and victories involved in developing and flying this magnificent aircraft.
In producing this film, the use of existing Air Corps footage that makes up the bulk of most other B-29 movies was kept to a minimum. Instead, the film features rare camera-original rolls shot on location by Army cameramen in India, China, the Mariana Islands, Iwo Jima, and Korea, as well as shots of the Bell X-1 rocket plane loading onto its B-29 mothership.
Interesting facts and stories about the plane, shots of the 1991 refurbishment of FiFi, and footage of the B-29 50th anniversary reunion at the Museum of Flight in August 1992 combine to create a superb and original look at the plane and at the men and women who made it triumph.
