EL COMODORO HOTEL BANK DRAFT CHECK
This item is a hotel bank draft check from the El Comodoro Hotel in Miami, Florida that is dated February 6, 1954. It's made out in the amount of seventy dollars. The draft features an illustration of the El Comodoro Hotel on the front.
The way I understand it, the hotel made these drafts available to their customers so that they could be given cash in the days before ATM machines. The customer would sign the draft and the hotel would give the amount of cash stated on the draft to the customer. The amount given would then be transferred from the customer's bank account and placed into the account of the hotel. This customer's bank was the Atlantic National Bank in Jacksonville, Florida. The draft was hole punched when it cleared the customer's bank and the draft was then returned to the customer similar to the way a canceled check is returned. A neat collectible for collectors of hotel ephemera.
